Tarot Mobile Media
About
This short series began as a series of experiments in two ways: First of all, I was learning a program called Adobe After Effects.
This as a good opportunity to improve my technique because it was a series of smaller pieces that would allow me to try a variety of ideas.
I experimented with kinematics, 3d rendering and a variety of compositing techniques. So this is officially my first real crack at video composting.
From a technical perspective, its a good first try, but not something I consider a major work or even a work that is currently representitive of my technique.
Conceptually these pieces were designed to live as mobile media. I don't particualrly believe in tarot cards, and in NO WAY am I promoting the retarded mysticism surrounding tarot cards.
insteat, I saw the opportunity for a series of short character pieces that could be used as ringtones or alerts.
This was the plan: I wanted something with personality that was "assignable". You girlfriend calles, and you use the lovers ringtone. Your boss calls, and the emperor plays. Your ex wife calls and death plays.
You have all the cards to chose from and the user assigns which callers get which ringtones.
By making them "cards" I wanted to promote a sort of tradeability to the project, that and the screen of an iPhone is generally card-shaped.
I am not sure this piece is a success or not. I Enjoyed scoring the pieces, but they are a little long to be ringtones. I am also not sure how effective the text was, but overall I am satisfied with the project's "feel". I doubt I will revisit this project
Too many people mistook the project for any particular meaning in the cards. I am still thinking of other wayis I can use character ringtones that people could "assign" to callers as easily.
