The Shadow Observatory Mainpage

Welcome to The Shadow Observatory

This is the mainpage of The Shadow Observatory. This is a personal site for Jesse Harlin, where he can post information about his projects, archive his work and display artistic material. It is a constant work in progress and may change over time.

Below are site updates. Here I will post current information about myself and the site.

I have updated the music section. Theres 99 tracks to listen to (heh some are better than others). Theres also a comments section at the bottom of each page with media so that webbies can leave comments. Of course I reserve the right to delete spam... and unless its entertaining to me I will follow that guideline with an iron fist. I am still finding tracks as i go through my material. I should have the video section up soon as well. For now, Jesseharlin.net redirects to this page.

10.15.08

I have completely reworked the site in asp.net thus making it easier to update. Theres a lot of misssing content and I am working to update everythign amd "make it work". I have also seperated www.jesseharlin.net and this site into differnt entities. The other is still jsut an index page with some text, but it will serve as a more concise resume-type site and this oen iwll still be the mass archive of my music and artwork.

I will post additional updates as the site is fleshed upon its scaffolding.

Symbiotic Media at Oklahoma Univeristy

The site needs updating- I know. However, I have worked on another site, the Symbiotic Media Program at OU. I am also working on a very large installation project that will change the way many think about music. Expect something great soon.

In the meantime check out the Symbiotic Media program by clickign the image or the link. This is where you can go to learn more about my studies.

This is a video of my younger sister Claire Harlin, who is the editor of the University of Texas campus newspaper in Austin. I am quite proud of her. She was asked to comment on the event for the CNN news network.

The debate was hosted by the University Democrats, a registered student organization, and was presented by the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation on behalf of the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the LBJ Library, CNN and Univision Communications, Inc.

The homepage of the Daily Texan Online can be found here.

Jesse Harlin Digital Arts Graduate Student

It has been about a month since I have updated the site. I have been busy developing some interesting new applications that will be posted shortly, as well as participating in multiple art shows.

I recently won the Docent award at the Student Art show held at the University of Oklahoma for my Non-Specific Modern Art Generator. You can view a video from the OU HUB, their online division here.

The project and the show were both rewarding. The most awesome moment was when a group of schoolchildren touring the museum came by while I was stress testing some new printer drivers. They were amazed to see something that looked and responded like a video game. One kid, his name was Joel, was even brave enough to make one himself. They were all pretty lit up with excitement. I love seeing children engaged in something they find intriguing. Im glad I got to be the guy that made that thing.

I will have a working version of this application, as well as a few other applications up soon.

1.09.08

There have been massive updates in the video subsection. In short, I have content now. I have also added a Favicon. Its custom!

I have also been informed that Harpbot has been externally linked at an unusual instrument archive. I think this is very cool and i encourage visitation.

The site is called Noise junk and there is a Link here.

1.07.08

Texperimented with video updating

1.06.08

I am still converting videos. Then i darkened the nav bar. Then i make this look correct in IE.Expect more updates within the week.

1.04.08

I basically did away with the idea of an "archive" area. After working with the background over and over i decided to keep the current version. I updated the photo subsection extensively and it should be easier to navigate. I also added quite a bit to the information section. The information mainpage is still a tad barren, but the bio, resume and links sections have been heavily populated with content.

I also learned a little php and added a handy feedback form. The thing works well, and this is actually a really good way to get in touch with me.

12.13.07

Since the last update i have cleaned some errors in the CSS and added a few pictures. i have custom built a flash image viewer that will be used throughout the site. The studio images can be see here in the photos section

Welcome to the Shadow Observatory. You have reached the personal site of Jesse Harlin. The name of the site is also the name of the studio he maintains. This is the first official update of the site and is relatively Spartan in nature.

I am quickly working to add content. The nav bar at the top, under the extremely sexy flash object I made will help with navigation to the main sections fo the site. The javascript enables menu to the left will help with the subsections of the site. there may be some dead links or Unintelligible material as fo now. This is a growing project. Expect updates.

If you are extremely eger to see my stuff, you can see my student page here. I know. Its hideous in some ways. It was initially an experiment in animated .gif files as a background image and a means to present my work to students. It also suffers slightly slow load times due to all the youtube links. I'll be workign on that soon enough.

Since the info section, that will soon contain conttact information is slightly devoid of material i will simply post my email: harlinjesse@gmail.com
